We’re asking you to join us in taking these IMMEDIATE action steps today to fight anti-trans attacks and reaffirm Maine’s deep commitment to the legal and human rights of the trans community.
Contact your representatives: Contact your local and state representatives to let them know how important it is for them to stand with us. You can find your state senator here, and you can find your state house representative here! We’ll keep you updated on issues and legislation that impacts the trans community and our allies; currently, we need Mainers to speak out about bills targeting trans girls in sports and protections under the Maine Human Rights Act. These bills include (but are not limited to):
Write a Letter to the Editor (LTE): Writing a letter to the editors of your local paper(s) is a great way to shine a light and take a stand on issues facing the trans community. Check out this guide from Maine People’s Alliance on tips for writing a great LTE, and find their publication list here!
Tell your friends! We need EVERYONE to speak up and reach out to their legislators to block these bills. Can you share this awesome clip from Last Week Tonight with friends and family members who are having trouble understanding the issue?
Prepare testimony: These bills are likely to be heard before the end of April (though they have not yet been scheduled for a hearing). Maine People’s Alliance has a guide to writing great testimony you can download here. We will not get more than a few days’ notice, so make sure you are following MTN socials for updates!

Gender Affirming Care in the Wake of Executive Orders, Explained State by State
The folks at Relman Colfax in Washington, D.C., have developed this downloadable explainer to empower families, advocacy groups, allies, medical professionals, hospital administrators, and state officials with the knowledge and tools needed to protect and uphold the rights of the transgender community. The explainer includes:
An overview of state laws protecting transgender individuals' access to gender-affirming care in the 18 states whose Attorneys General have recently made public statements or taken legal action in support of these rights, complete with an appendix outlining those laws.
Contextual analysis of how state laws interact with the federal executive orders and the legal basis for providers' continued obligations to deliver gender-affirming care under these state protections.

Support our Work Today:
Thank you for your interest in supporting MaineTransNet!
We are Maine's only organization specifically focused on supporting transgender people. Your financial support helps us to ensure that trans people in every corner of Maine have at least one place in their lives where they are able to safely be themselves.
Our work is focused on creating supportive community spaces for trans people, their families, and their allies. We also work to increase access to healthcare and social services through our extensive training program in transgender cultural competency targeted at healthcare, mental health, and social service providers.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your donation is tax deductible. And as a community based, membership led organization, you can rest assured that your donation will be used to support community identified priorities and needs.
